How Even Play Can Become Racialized- McNaboe

! Through the CABD performance, we as audience members, particularly those who grew up outside of the type of lived experiences they entailed, were challenged to examine our role in the piece, and what stereotypes we brought with us. The work itself challenges the conventions of what it means to be young, even prior to the harsh realities of life. This piece took a nuanced and complex approach to understanding what it means to be a child of color, and what access they are denied on that basis.

?Tied to that, the performance’s tone, as well as its speed of the score/music, challenged my conceptions of childlike behavior. That being said, I wonder if the piece took the positives and the negatives into account in a fashion that is truly representative of their experiences, or one that is shaped by their perceptions of their childhood.
